I was glad to slow down and listen to this interview again after a couple of years and many hours of podcasts inbetween. Prof Garrett sounds sad and resigned to being the bearer of bad news. But he had just purchased a rural property at 8800 ft altitude to be his personal response to a warming world, so he is taking personal adaptive action.
At min 43 you ask if there is anything that could happen to humanity that would slow down our energy consumption needed to maintain civilization. You didn’t mention covid or pandemic of course, but that comes to mind as the scenario that could ‘reset’ our civilization’s metabolism. Maybe tptb (WEF, World Bank, WMF, etc) now advocating the ‘Great Reset’ are doing just that.
Also, I find a glitch in the matrix could be that plants and chlorophyll produce energy with in biological systems, not physics-bounded laws of matter, hence we could imagine a viable future of energy that would sustain a civilization that was less energy intensive.
